Dear His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua,

My name is Mejjah Kamau, a voter at Thare polling station in Gatanga constituency, Murang’a County. I write to you today not only as a concerned citizen but also as someone who empathizes with the challenges you are currently facing following your recent impeachment by the parliamentary majority. The allegations against you, which many perceive as non-substantial, have undoubtedly placed you in a difficult position, and I wish to express my sympathy during this trying time.

It is my belief that your decision to address the press regarding these allegations may not have been the most prudent course of action. In moments of adversity, silence can often serve as a powerful tool. Engaging in public discourse may have inadvertently provided your adversaries with the opportunity to further their agenda against you. As the wise saying goes, “You don’t necessarily have to fight to be a man.” Sometimes, restraint can be a more dignified response.

The impeachment process you are currently enduring is not a trivial matter, as many of your opponents may assume. The motion that has passed through Parliament is merely the first step in a lengthy journey that may lead to the Senate, a special committee, and potentially the courts. Each of these stages presents its own set of challenges and uncertainties, and it is crucial to recognize the gravity of the situation.

In light of these circumstances, I would advise you to consider resigning from your position. This may seem like an extreme measure, but it could provide you with the opportunity to distance yourself from the political turmoil that surrounds you. Resigning would allow you to step back, re-energize, and reassess your political strategy without the constant pressure of ongoing battles.

Furthermore, it is evident that your working relationship with President Ruto has been strained. His silence on the political battles you are facing suggests a loss of confidence in your leadership. Continuing to serve under these conditions may not only be detrimental to your political career but could also hinder your ability to effectively govern.

It is also worth noting that many of the Members of Parliament who once demonstrated loyalty to you have not stood by your side during this crisis. The lack of support from those close to you, with the exception of Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, raises questions about their true allegiance. Trust is a vital component in politics, and it is essential to surround yourself with individuals who will stand firm in your defense.

While I may appear to be in a position of lesser authority, I feel compelled to share my perspective. There are repercussions that your advisers may not be fully disclosing to you regarding the potential outcomes of an impeachment by the Senate special committee. According to the Constitution, an impeachment could severely limit your future political opportunities within the Republic of Kenya.

In light of these considerations, I urge you to resign honorably and take the time to address the matters at hand. Additionally, I encourage you to seek reconciliation with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who continues to hold significant influence within the Gikuyu community. His blessings could be instrumental in your political future.

Lastly, it is imperative to foster unity within the Mt. Kenya region. Engaging with leaders such as Maina Njenga and others will be crucial in building a cohesive front. It will be challenging to unite the region if the majority of its leaders remain divided. Your leadership can play a pivotal role in this endeavor.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my thoughts. I wish you strength and wisdom as you navigate this challenging period.

Sincerely,

Mejjah Kamau
